Memory Foam Mattress
Select a Memory Foam Mattress
by James KingWhy should you buy a memory foam mattress instead of a normal sprung mattress?
If you are looking to buy a memory foam mattress to replace a traditional bed and mattress, then the likelihood is that the reason you need to change is that the padding around the springs has worn away with years of use, or that the springs have become deflected, having been compacted in the same way, night after night.
With a memory foam mattress, this problem does not occur. There are three main reasons for this:
- The memory foam supports your body evenly
- The memory foam is designed to get softer as it gets warmer with the heat from your body so it moulds when warm and then returns to its normal shape once it cools
- There are no springs to wear out or poke into you
As your memory foam mattress softens under the heat of your body it will soften and take the shape of your body, following your individual contours. The heat sensitive cells in the foam are designed so that the ones closest to your body deform more, as they get hotter, whilst the area underneath deforms less and less, providing support for your back, neck, shoulders and legs.
You will also find that your memory foam mattress is fully breathable, and because the matters is made up of a layer of memory foam on top of denser supporting foam, there is no need to turn your memory foam mattress, although you can rotate it so that you alternate between head end and toe end, to ensure even wear to the surface.
Some people find that the bed is harder in a cold room, which is to be expected, given the heat reactive properties, but it will soften as the air temperature increases. It is also easier for the mattress to mould to your body if it is slightly warmer in the room, and for first time users, turning the heat up in the bedroom will help making the adjustment from a traditional bed to a memory foam mattress.
